Reading Baal Shem Tov and Culinary Workshops

On November 24, two workshops under the ABCs of Judaism and Jewish Culture were organized. In the main exhibition room of the Institute, Symcha Keller, a well-known Jewish activist and cantor, conducted a reading of the texts by Baal Shem Tov, the 18th century founder of the Chassidic movement. The participants of the workshop sang the oldest-known Chassidic song entitled ‘Zloczower’ written by Michael of Zloczow.

Symcha Keller frequently referred to the concepts of Baal Shem Tov, who stated that God can be praised in any daily activity, also while cooking. Following this view, we organized culinary workshop at ‘Plantacja’ Social Club-Cafe. It was conducted by Szoszana Keller, who introduced characteristic features of the Ashkenazi Jews cuisine, Further, to illustrate her discussion the participants cooked three dishes together: gefilte fish, kugel, and chopped eggs and onions.
