Piotr Cywiński, PhD ‘Auschwitz-Birkenau – Memorial Site for the 21st Century’

As part of the series of meetings entitled ‘Ideas of the 21st Century’ we invited Piotr Cywiński, PhD, director of the Museum of Auschwitz-Birkenau, who delivered a lecture on ‘Auschwitz-Birkenau – Memorial Site for the 21st Century’. As he stressed, the Museum of Auschwitz-Birkenau is not only a memorial site but also a lesson which the world still hasn’t learned. It can be observed particularly in today’s modern western world which is moving towards populism. Not knowing how to deal both with its own identity and seeking a vision for the future, it plunges into apathy, not responding to dangerous changes in the world, or even to the contemporary forms of genocide. It does not draw conclusions from the past a sign of which is the Auschwitz museum.
